Campaign Insider - Important Things
For some, campaigns are everything - everything. And that's especially true of Saturdays. Calls go out to volunteers to canvass and the blitz is on. There are only five such days in the campaign when most volunteers are available and they are packed with activity.Yet campaigns shouldn't succeed in shunting aside the important things. This past Saturday, for instance, was London's Clean and Green - an opportunity to clean up garbage from our city parks. My riding association (London North Centre) has sifted through the same park for the last couple of years, collecting trash, pulling shopping carts out of the ponds, and generally doing our part as citizens to make London a greener place. Unfortunately, a storm was working its way up from the States and it was pretty cold. Then it was off to pick up food for our annual food drive, attendance at a funeral of a dear friend and neighbour (see http://glenpearson.wordpress.com/2011/04/16/transcending-politics/), and then off to the Chinese Cultural Centre for a generous donation to the London Food Bank. A busy time, to be sure, but that's what living in a community entails - for my campaigns anyway. The video below will give you some idea of how it went.http://youtu.be/_Z2HLMNCQMU
