Firefighters to hold remembrance 9/11

The public are invited to join the London Professional Firefighters' Association (LPFFA) and the London Fire Department for a remembrance ceremony for all firefighters who have lost their lives in the line of duty, to be held Thursday (Sept. 11), at the London Fire Station No. 1, 400 Horton St., starting at 11 a.m.
"September 11th has great significance because of the number of fire fighters who fell along with thousands of others due to terrorist attacks on that day in 2001," said a London Fire officials in a media release.
The London memorial will be presided over by LPFFA President Jim Holmes. Fire Chief John Kobarda, Mayor Anne Marie DeCicco-Best along with London North Centre MP and former London Fire Captain Glen Pearson are expected to attend and address the crowd.
Members of other levels of government will also be among the distinguished guests.
"Each and every one of London fire personnel who have died in the line of duty will be recognized and honoured. There will also be a medal presentation to the family of fallen London firefighter Roger Chiasson," fire officials said.
There will be the traditional ringing of a ceremonial bell as well as the playing of "Amazing Grace" by an LPFFA Piper.
Refreshments will be served following the ceremony.
